I love the Christmas season! I’m not sure what I love more – the food or music. I probably shouldn’t admit this but I usually start listening to Christmas music in September and once the weather get cold I start dreaming of my favorite winter beverage – Gluhwein. Gluhwein roughly translated means “glow-wine”. It’s a traditional German drink offered during Christmas.
Way back in 2007 I went to Bonn, Germany to visit my sister and brother-in-law for a week. Unfortunately I went during July so I didn’t get to experience the amazing outdoor Christmas markets you hear so much about. Christmas in Germany with Marc and Cian is definitely on my bucket list!
My Gluhwein Recipe
One 1.5 L bottle of cabernet sauvignon
1 Cup of sugar
1 Cup of Honey Bourbon
Juice of one orange
3 whole cinnamon sticks
1 tbsp of whole cloves
Place all of these ingredients in a crockpot set to low. Allow the wine to simmer for about two hours before serving.
